The Beauty Industry Hates Black People

The Beauty Industry Hates Black People

They use us as guinea pigs.
They tell us our skin isn't beautiful.
They say we don’t feel pain.

And yet—we are still seeking their approval.

We buy products from companies that use US as the face of their brand but aren’t even Black-owned. They market to us, take our dollars, and never think twice about the damage their products cause. Do you think they actually care about what’s inside those bottles? About what it’s doing to our skin in the long run? They don’t.

This is why I can’t stand tretinoin, kojic acid, and hydroquinone.

These ingredients weren’t made for us—they were made against us.

If you look at the history behind these so-called “miracle” ingredients, you’ll find a deep-rooted disdain for Black skin. These products were designed to strip, bleach, and suppress—not to nourish or heal. And the worst part? We’re still being sold the idea that these ingredients are the only way to achieve “clear skin.”

And let’s not forget what happened with Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder. Mass-marketed to us for DECADES—only for studies to reveal that it caused infertility and cancer in Black women. Even with case studies and proof, they denied, deflected, and kept selling. Because we were never their priority.

And it’s not just skincare. An entire article recently exposed the toxins in braiding hair—linked to cancer and endocrine issues in Black women. And what do these companies do? Stand behind their products.

It’s time to wake up.

Half of these beauty brands don’t belong to us, yet we are their biggest consumers. They push products so potent that they make you believe you’re seeing results, but in reality? They’re ruining your skin long-term.

So the next time you’re about to buy a skincare product, ask yourself: Who made this? Who owns this? Who is this actually helping?

I don’t gatekeep. That’s why I create products that truly put Black skin first—without the harmful ingredients, without the lies, without the long-term damage.

Because your skin deserves better.

Hit reply and let me know your thoughts—I want to hear from you.

Stay safe & stay glowing,
Paula Delores
